In the midst of our darkness and despair
The brilliant light of dawn appeared
Yet it was unexpected
We thought the light had left us
Its dazzling brightness healed our grief
It left us stunned, paralyzed, confused
How is this possible?
What could it mean?
A world we never imagined has dawned
Our teacher, our friend, our Lord
Somehow is alive
Death could not contain him
Will he now overthrow Caesar
Will he take vengeance on his enemies
Is now the coming of God’s judgement
Will the son of David take the throne
No. He bids us silence
He meets with us in secret
He teaches a peaceful and subversive way
The way of God behind the scenes
What we saw and what he taught
Changed everything for us
We finally understood
That fear had lost its power
He called us to a different course
Our lives would be an offering
Announcing the way of beauty
Living as healers of this world
It would cost us everything
But there was nothing left to fear
For death had been defeated
The world would be made whole
This hope is not for us alone
The way of God stands open
For Jew and Greek and all who seek
Christ in us and Christ in you
This way makes little sense
To a world of power and control
For it seeks the overlooked
And ignores what others value
It is a way of open hands
Where joy triumphs over fear
Where Love fills all in all
And God says, “Call me Abba”
