Words

Essential life-giving words
Regularly relied on
Become hollow
Unable to hold our weight

We mistook the signpost
For the way itself
The substance, our aim was
Hidden by our description

The sacred words must be released
In the dark we must seek their source
Here again is life
No words sufficient to hold this

We use words to describe our experience and to help us orient, but they can readily become hindrances when we cling to them. They are not the thing itself, only poor descriptors. We must learn to see their limitations and to push past them, boldly pursuing the mystery the words attempt to describe. The reality is usually far more expansive than any word or set of words could hold. We must not allow ourselves to focus on the packaging and miss the thing itself.
