About My Talks

I've spent over 20 years as a nature photographer with a focus on Rocky Mountain National Park and also an author of numerous books from hiking guides to inspirational books. I regularly speak to diverse groups on a variety of topics ranging from talks about Rocky Mountain National Park, to the value of nature, to photography, to the inner life, and issues of faith.

I was the keynote speaker for the 100th anniversary celebration of Rocky Mountain National Park held in Boulder, Colorado. I've spoken regularly at the national park visitor centers. I've also spoken to many photography clubs, school groups, hiking groups, churches, libraries, museums, and more. I try to tailor each talk to be relevant to the audience I am speaking to.

My presentations are characterized by a love for the natural world, a passion for living meaningfully, and all of my talks include numerous photos from my many years as a professional nature photographer.

As well as talking about Rocky Mountain National Park and also my work as a photographer, I do speak on a variety of other subjects. Here are a few topics that I regularly cover, though these are just a sample.

Intentional Solitude, Silence, and Stillness
This is a presentation about how our lives can be enriched by stepping away from the busy world for periods of time.  Solitude, silence, and stillness are forgotten practices that can lead us into lives of depth and substance that we and our wider world so desperately need.

Reconnecting with Nature
This presentation talks about the value of living a life that is deeply connected with the natural world. Using personal stories to discussing the most recent research into the healing power of nature, this talk will inspire you to spend more time in the natural world and to see it with new eyes. In this talk I propose that nature can heal not only our bodies, but our inner well being, our relationship with each other, and with the world itself.

From Information to Encounter
This presentation reflects on my own personal journey from years working in the Balkan Peninsula to a breakdown that led me to become a nature photographer. It also looks at how my own personal faith has shifted over these years from one that was cerebral and superficial to one that has become an ongoing encounter leading me ever deeper into wholeness.

Schedule

My primary season for public speaking is mid-November through mid-April. When May arrives I turn my focus to my work as a nature photographer.

Pricing Structure

I strive to make my talks accessible for small community groups while ensuring sustainability for
my work. My pricing is structured based on group size and event type:

  • Small Groups (under 25 attendees): $150
  • Medium Groups (25-75 attendees): $250
  • Larger Groups (75-200): $500
  • More than 200 attendees: $1,000 - $2,000
  • Workshops or Extended Sessions (2+ hours): $150 - $300 per hour
  • Nonprofits, Libraries, or Schools: Case-by-case
  • Custom Events: Contact me to discuss pricing

Travel & Accommodations

For events outside of Colorado's Front Range area, travel reimbursement is required. Travel costs include:

  • Mileage: $0.73 per mile for locations beyond 50 miles from Estes Park.
  • Travel Time: $150 for each half day of travel
  • Air Travel: If needed, the host organization will cover airport parking, airfare, and
transportation from the airport, either pickup and dropoff or a rental car.
  • Overnight Stays: If the event requires an overnight stay, the host should provide accommodations
    or cover lodging costs.

Technical & Venue Requirements

To ensure a smooth experience, I request the following:

  • Audio/Visual Setup: I will need a working projector with a screen, ideally a high resolution projector or TV. For larger groups I will also need a microphone.
  • Room Setup: A comfortable space for the audience, with seating arranged to encourage engagement.
  • Assistance with Promotion: If you'd like to promote the event publicly, I’m happy to assist with its promotion through my social media.

Book Signings

Some events like for me to offer my books to participants and to sign them after my presentation. This is an option available for your event. Because sales taxes are different in every location, I ask that the inviting organization be responsible for selling the books and handling sales tax. I will sell the books to you at their wholesale price, allowing you to make some profit on their sale. For local events, I can bring a supply of books with me. For events that require a flight, you would be responsible for covering either the shipping costs or the cost for extra luggage to bring the books.

Event Reservation & Payment

To book a speaking engagement, please reach out with:
